CIS 101 Introduction to Computing (Interim)
DESCRIPTION:
    This course introduces students to the essential knowledge required to achieve a well-rounded understanding of the extensive impact of the Internet and computer technology in all aspects of modern society. Computers are now the primary means of information retrieval, analysis and communication among individuals and organizations throughout the world. CIS101 provides students with the understanding of computer terminology, hardware, and software necessary to explore the resources of the Internet and exploit technology to its fullest on both a personal and professional level.
OUTLINE:
  • Introduction - concepts of computer hardware and software systems. Roles of the computer. Areas of application.
  • Application Programming with Excel - use of Excel spreadsheets for manipulation, analysis and presentation of data.  Editing and formatting of data, functions and formulas, graphing data, and table manipulation.
  • Web Page Design with HTML -  Internet concepts, role of the Web. Basic HTML for web page design and web site creation 
  • Computer and Network Security  -  basic threats and strategies for security. 
  • Intro to Programming - TBA
  • Forensics - readings and discussions.
