Meet the 2000 EDSIG Board


Dr. William J. "Bill" TastlePresident: Bill Tastle

Dr. William J. "Bill" Tastle is a Professor of Computer Information Systems at Ithaca College, New York. He has served on the board of directors and is the past Executive Vice President. Bill has been the Managing Editor of the International Journal of General Systems for the past decade and was recently selected to be the conference chair of the first international conference on electronic crime sponsored by the US Secret Service. His research interests include reconstructability analysis, curriculum development, and complex systems modeling.

Dr. Jack RussellPast President: Jack Russell

Dr. Jack Russell has been a member of DPMA/AITP since 1973 and has been a member of EDSIG for five years.  Jack was a Professor of Computer Information Systems at Tarleton State University.  He was honored as a Regents Professor (Texas A & M University System) and a Piper Professor of Texas in 1997.  Recently Jack joined the faculty of Northwestern State University as Professor of Computer Information Systems. Jack chaired the first AITP National Collegiate Conference in 1996, and he has served as the president, executive vice president, program chair, and education chair of the Fort Worth chapter of DPMA/AITP.  Jack wants to revive interest in EDSIG as the premier organization for IS education.

Vice President: David Feinstein

Dr. David L. Feinstein is a Professor of Computer Science and Information Systems at the University of South Alabama.  Active in computing since 1964 and the long time member of DPMA and AITP, he co-authored the IS '90 and IS '97 model curricula.  David will be the chair of ISECON'98 and ISECON'99.

Prof. Nancy ThomsonSecretary: Nancy Thomson

Nancy Thomson is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Information Systems at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. She has also been a visiting Professor at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, PROC. Her research interests include distance education, security and privacy, and human factors.

Prof. Al HarrisTreasurer: Al Harris

Dr. Albert L. (Al) Harris is a CISA, Professor and Acting Department Chair at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina where he teaches a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses in information systems. He has twice served as MIS Track Chair for the Southeast DSI meeting, and has participated as reviewer, presenter, track chair, session chair or discussant at numerous regional, nation, and international meetings including ISECON meetings since 1989. Al is an active supporter of AITP and EDSIG.

Secretary: Margaret Thomas

Margaret C. Thomas has been working in information systems for thirteen years and she is also a lecturer with the College of Business, Arts and Sciences, and Engineering and Technology at Ohio State University.  New to EDSIG, Margaret has been associated with several education groups and has attended many ISECON conferences and other education forums.  Her interests include research in computational linguistics, reviewing and editing for major publishers, and developing training workshops for government employees.

Director: Betty Boyd

Betty started her career in Information Systems as a systems engineer for IBM, teaching programming to IBM clients. Since then she has taught both in academia and industry, as well as worked as a systems analyst in business. Betty has taught at a number of institutions in the United States and overseas and served as EDSIG treasurer from 1995-1997. She is co-founder of the gise.org web site to promote the sharing of IS teaching materials throughout the world and is publisher of the journal Informing Science. She is interested in expanding the means by which educators of IS throughout the world can easily and inexpensively communicate ideas and research.

Director: Mark C. "Buzz" Hensel

Mark "Buzz" Hensel served as EDSIG secretary in 1997 and 1998. He is Director of Information and Instructional Resources of the College of Business at the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas. He teaches Advanced Design and Telecommunication courses and is the advisor of the AITP of UTA student chapter which hosted the 1999 AITP National Collegiate Conference (NCC) last March. His research interests include systems analysis and design, advanced computing hardware, the history of computing, telecommunications and networks. Buzz is building a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) lab facility and installing the SAP R/3 system, and will start teaching SAP Basis Administration in January 2000. Buzz has been a member of DPMA/AITP since 1972. He has been a member of EDSIG and a participant in the ISECON conferences since 1993.

Director: Denise McGinnis

Denise McGinnis is a Professor of Accounting and Information Technology at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO. She has 17 years of teaching experience in Information Technology field, including Database Management, Systems Analysis and Design, Application Software, Programming Languages (COBOL and Visual Basic), and Quantitative Analysis. She has attended ISECON conferences for over ten years. Denise was an officer in the International Business Schools Computing Association (IBSCA) for six years and served as director, secretary and president during that time. In 1997, she was editor of the proceedings for their conference in Daytona Beach, Florida. During six years as a member of AITP she has served as the faculty advisor to the student chapter. Prior to that Denise was a member of ASM and the faculty advisor of the student chapter at the University of Toledo.

Dr. Jerry WagnerDirector: Gerald "Jerry" Wagner

Gerald "Jerry" Wagner is Professor Emeritus of CIS at the California State Polytechnic University at Pomona where he introduced the first business data processing degree in 1966 as chair of the CIS department. He also hosted the 1978 and 1979 conferences that led to the formation of the first DPMA Model Curriculum that was published in 1981. Jerry is retired from Cal Poly but continues to work as an educational consultant. Jerry was named IS Education of the Year in 1987.

Director: David Zolzer

David Zolzer is Director of the Electronic Commerce program and an Associate Professor at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. He has been a member of DPMA/AITP since 1987 and a member of EDSIG since 1995. David chaired the programming competition at the first and second AITP National Student Conferences in 1996 and 1997, and is a member of the San Antonio Mayor's Task Force for Technology.

Dr. Stuart VardenISECON2000 Chair: Stuart A. Varden

Dr. Stuart A. Varden is a Professor of Information Systems at Pace University in Pleasantville, New York, where he serves a Assistant Department Chair and Graduate Advisor of Pace Westchester.  His interests include database management systems, Internet technologies, telecommunications, and information systems curriculum development and trends.  He has been a member of the Editorial Board of JISE for the past seven years.
