HEOROT is "a great mead-building that the children of men should hear of forever" (Norton, 28). Hrothgar builds Heorot as a home for his warriors; this action is similar to creating a civilization out of chaos. Heorot attracts Grendel, who attacks the hall for twelve years, until Beowulf slays him.
