Literary DesCent of sir gawain and the green knight Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is said to have been written in the late fourteenth century.  The identity of it's writer remains a mystery, but it is known that Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as well as three other poems contained in the same manuscript were written in West Midland dialect with a Scandinavian influence.  Although it is still unknown who the genius behind this great work is, below you will find a table containing possible sources, that might have inspired this writer to create one of the greatest pieces in Middle  English literature.
