Sir Gawain is one of the best Knights of the Round Table. He is King Arthur's nephew and right-hand man. He is noted for his respect towards the Round Table and his chivalry when dealing with friends, foes and especially women.  He is constantly coming to King Arthur's rescue.  By putting others before himself, he is admired and revered by all.

The pentangle portrayed on the front of his shield is a symbol of truth.  Truth is the first and most important element within the Code of Chivalry.   Out of all of Gawain's honorable characteristics, truth is the one that outshines the rest.
