Fiend's Head: it seems that there is a confusion about this term in the passage. A reader may wonder whose head is taken by Beowulf after the battle in the Grendel's mother's lair. It is ambiguous whether the head belongs to Grendel himself or to his mother. However, later in the poem it is clearly stated that the head belongs to Grendel's mother:
For a while it was hand-to-hand between us, then blood went curling along the currents and I beheaded Grendel's mother in the hall with a mighty sword (ll 2137-2140).
