Represented as the ideal sidekick (even more so than Robin was to Batman), Wiglaf remains by the side of Beowulf throughout the battle with the dragon and is accredited with inflicting the first mortal blow to the dragon's belly. Had it not been for Wiglaf, Beowulf would have spent his last breath uselessly beating the dragon over the head. Wiglaf is rewarded for his bravery, ingenuity, and loyalty when Beowulf entrusts him with his kingdom.
