His research is in the areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and information retrieval. He is currently working with individual undergraduate and graduate students on projects that involve secure technologies and access discriminates. Dr. Verbeurgt teaches a graduate course entitled "Information Retrieval and the Web" which involves many Web-based projects.
