The Katonah Lewisboro community will have an opportunity to hear and enjoy the talents of John Jay High School's most accomplished choral singers when the John Jay High School Chorale performs with the Westchester Oratorio Society at the oratorio society's upcoming May 5 concert which will feature Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams and The Company of Heaven by Benjamin Britten The Chorale is a student group of 30 auditioned singers. Performing under the direction of music teacher Stephen Morse, the chorus specializes in an eclectic mix of styles including classical, contemporary, jazz and spirituals. They will be joining with the oratorio society and its acclaimed professional orchestra to perform the Vaughn Williams piece along with baritone soloist David Arnold. Since his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in 1983, David Arnold has been considered one of America's finest baritones. A protégé of Robert Shaw and a favorite of Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, he has performed extensively in the United States and Europe. Along with Mr. Morse, the oratorio society's Artistic Director, Harold Rosenbaum, has been working with the students at the school to prepare them for the concert. In addition, the students will be participating with Mr. Rosenbaum and his chorus in several joint rehearsals. The May 5 concert will be held at John Jay High School in Cross River, N.Y. Though the Westchester Oratorio Society rehearses in South Salem, this will be their debut appearance in Lewisboro. On June 10th the group will appear at Carnegie Hall in a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. For the student Chorale, the opportunity to perform in a community-wide event with the internationally renowned Mr. Arnold, and with the oratorio society and its professional orchestra is just the beginning of some exciting new experiences.
