WESTCHESTER ORATORIO SOCIETY OFFERS FOUR SUMMER SINGS AT NWCA

Avocational singers will have four opportunities to spend some fun-filled relaxing evenings, meeting other choral music lovers and reading through masterworks of the repertoire with four well-known choral conductors. On four successive Wednesday evenings in July the Westchester Oratorio Society will host its series of Four Summer Sings at Northern Westchester Center for the Arts in Mt. Kisco. Summer Sings are open sings that give area singers of all levels the opportunity to come together and sing their favorite choral pieces under direction of distinguished choral conductors. The Westchester Oratorio Society is again pleased to be presenting its series at the centrally located and centrally air-conditioned NWCA. The Center, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, has been a strong supporter of the group. The series begins Wednesday evening July 2 with Lyndon Woodside, Music Director of the Oratorio Society of New York and the Westchester Choral Society conducting Handel's Messiah. The following Wednesday, July 9, will feature Tim Vernon, Director of The Choral Arts Society, who will lead the Bach Magnificat and Cantata No.4 Christ Lag in Todesbanden. On July 16, Daniela Sikora, Music Director of the Ridgefield Chorale and Chorus Master of the Ridgefield Opera, will conduct Westchester Goes Pop! an evening of Broadway and pop tunes. The final evening of the series, Wednesday, July 23, will be led by the Westchester Oratorio Society's own Artistic Director, Harold Rosenbaum, conducting Brahm's Requiem. Mr. Rosenbaum's busy summer includes appearances at both the Bard Festival and at Tanglewood conducting his acclaimed New York Virtuoso Singers. The cost of each summer sing is $10, which includes score rental and light refreshments during intermission. A subscription for all four evenings is $35. The time is 8:00 P.M. For more information on Summer Sings, to audition, or for other information call 914-763-9389 or visit the group's Web site at www.westchesteroratorio.org. This September, WOS will begin rehearsals on Tuesdays in Katonah for another exciting season that will include a Carnegie Hall appearance with the Brooklyn Philharmonic performing Verdi's Requiem joined by the Canticum Novum Singers, the New York Virtuoso Singers and choral students from the University at Buffalo. Auditions for the society's winter concert, Handel's Esther, will be held beginning in August. Though no previous experience is required, some sight-reading ability is desired.
