Dr. Sachs served Pace University as Assistant and then Associate Dean and Professor of Information Technology in Pace University's Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems from 1984 until 2012. Dr. Sachs has served the University as a Tenured Full Professor in the Information Technology Department from 2012 – present. As Assistant and Associate Dean, he developed and implemented a wide array of computer science and telecommunications courses for the corporate community. As founder and manager of the Pace Computer Learning Center, Dr. Sachs was responsible for the many hundreds of days of personal computer, computer science, and telecommunications education that were provided each year to corporations throughout the United States and around the world such as AT&T, IBM, MCI, PepsiCo, The Reader's Digest, and others. Dr. Sachs has worked closely with teachers, administrators and others to think about the most effective ways to introduce technology into public and private schools.
Since 1999, Dr. Sachs has been actively involved in the development of telecommunications courses that are taught asynchronously online. Dr. Sachs is the founder of and served as the co-director of the award-winning NACTEL Program (http://csis.pace.edu/nactel) - a program that provides AS and BS in Telecommunications Degrees to many thousands of individuals from Verizon, AT&T, Frontier, and CenturyLink, many of whom are members of CWA and IBEW. In addition, Dr. Sachs was the Principle Investigator for a $1,000,000 FIPSE Learning Anytime Anywhere Partnership Grant (1999 - 2002) as well as for almost $2,000,000 in grants from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (1996 - 2002). He has also co-authored 9 books that focus primarily on the Internet and Web-related software.
Dr. Sachs was a co-principle investigator for a $100,000 New York City PilotTech Telehealth Grant in 2013, which focused on remote patient monitoring. Dr. Sachs was the co-author of a $1,400,000 grant that was awarded to the Westchester Public Private Partnership in May 2014. This three-year grant is being used to provide remote patient monitoring services to 600 adults located in Westchester County, NY and in Lackawanna and Wayne Counties, PA.
Currently Dr. Sachs teaches undergraduate and graduate courses that focus on social media. His research interests focus on social media and telehealth solutions. Dr. Sachs has been a member of the Sloan-C Advisory Board for the annual ALN conference since 2007.
PAPERS AND CONFERENCES
Dr. Sachs frequently presents papers or workshops about the Internet and the World Wide Web. More recently, he has presented at conferences that focus on telehealth issues or solutions. Seminar topics include: Search Engines For Your Intranet; The 7 Keys To Effective Web Sites; Distance Learning; Outcomes Assessment as an Integral Part of Program Improvement and Web Demographics. - Alfred P. Sloan Foundation - December 2002 - $350,000 to provide Coop Students to work for businesses and non-profits impacted by the World Trade Center attacks.
- Alfred P. Sloan Foundation - December 2001 - $850,000 to focus on providing Coop Students to work for businesses and non-profits impacted by the World Trade Center attacks and to develop at least 50 online courses for Pace University by September 2002.
- FIPSE/LAAP Grant - August 1999 - August 2002 - $1,000,000 to focus on enhanced student support services, online testing, and mentoring with the NACTEL Project
