IS Curriculum Revision Chair
Supervised and managed development of new IS curriculum using internal
resources and IS 2002, the national model curriculum. Complete overhaul
of undergraduate IS curriculum resulted in changes to every required
course, implementing new topics and updating program emphasis. The
revision process was the subject of a journal article, “How Useful is IS
2002? A case study applying the Model Curriculum,” written with
Constance A. Knapp, in The Journal of Information Systems Education
(2004).
|
|
Course coordinator for IS112, Computer Organization and Programming
|
|
Co-developer of "CyberCitizenship: Ethics and the Internet"
This learning community course was developed for the Pfortzheimer Honors
College. It joins two disciplines, computing and ethics, to provide a
grounding to understand the explosive impact of technology on all
aspects of modern society. The disruptive nature of this impact has
raised serious ethical and social issues that extend beyond traditional
community and national boundaries. While the Internet and information
technology are recent inventions, they have provoked age old ethical and
moral issues involving privacy, property, responsibility and power.
Philosophers have struggled over these issues for centuries. A classical
approach to ethics, drawing on the writings of Kant, Mill, and the work
of contemporary thinkers, is applied to the high speed ethical
quandaries of modern society.

|
Lead Developer, CIS101 Online
|
Primary developer and author of curriculum materials for
transformation of CIS101 (Introduction to Computing) into a web
assisted (partially online) course. This Sloan funded
project converted CIS101, the technology course required for all
undergraduates into a two hour computer class, one hour online
format, with curriculum updated to reflect the impact of the
Internet and technology in all parts of society.
|
|
Primary author of 14 weeks worth of Blackboard materials. Also
developed a lab manual for four weeks of classroom instruction in
JavaScript. |
|
Developed faculty development and instructor support materials, and
designed and implemented a Blackboard Faculty Resource Site for
distribution of these materials. Details are described at
Sloan-C Effectiveness Site.
|
|
Received
Pace University Award for Distinguished Service in
recognition of contribution in development of this online course
|
|
|
Development of hybrid graduate elective “Programming Games Using Visual
Basic” first taught in January 1999, IS660Z
|
IS660Z was one of the first classes at Pace to combine online
instruction with face-to-face class sessions, a hybrid format that
is now the basis of Web assisted courses taught throughout the
school. The target audience for the course consists of IS graduate
students who have not fared well in programming classes. Learning to
create computer games is a great motivating factor. Students take a
more engaged approach to their work, and thoroughly enjoy the class.
IS660Z is among the first classes in the Information Systems
offerings to close out during registration. 100% of students taking
the class indicated that they would recommend IS660Z to other
students. |
|
Course materials for IS660Z evolved into a textbook published by
Course Technology (Programming Games With Visual Basic, 2001) |
