Introduction:

I.S. 318 has a major technology dilemma.  The school has not yet made a decision in upgrading their technology lab as well as all the computers in the classrooms.

 

Your class has been chosen as the elite technology class to buy a computer for the school.

 

The school has allocated you $2500 in techno dollars.

Your Tasks:

Your job is to research computer systems by using:

*      Computer hardware Catalogs

*      Computer Hardware Web Sites

 

The computer system must include the following peripherals:

*      17Ó Monitor

*      Intel Pentium processor

*      Optical mouse

*      Keyboard

*      DVD/CD-ROM drive

 

In addition to the items specified above the school will also need to upgrade their printers from inkjet to laser printers.  The school would also like to have at least 1 scanner available for the students to use.

 

I.S. 318 really needs your help in deciding whether to upgrade their existing equipment.  Try your best not to go over the allocated amount of $2500. 

 

Once you have found the ideal computer system, prepare to make a presentation of your research to your class.  Your presentation should include visuals of the computer as well as a written part explaining the reasons why would you recommend this computer to your school.

You will be paired up with another student in order to complete this search.

 

 
Researcher #1    

 

Research computer systems by using:

*      Computer hardware Catalogs

*      Computer Hardware Web Sites {websites are specified below}

 

¯      The computer system must include the following peripherals:

Researcher #2     

 

Once researcher #1 has found a recommended computer system. 

1)     You will have decided with your partner whether or not this computer system is an adequate computer for your school.

2)     You will have to put together a slide presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint.  Your slide show should contain the following:

Ÿ      Title { include your names, class, and the current date}

Ÿ      Pictures from the web detailing the computer equipment selected along with prices.

Ÿ      A breakdown of the complete total cost of the entire computer system included any printers or scanners you might of selected.  (you may use Microsoft Excel to complete this part)

Ÿ      A conclusion summarizing your recommendations

You can also use computer hardware catalogs that are available in the computer labÕs reference center.  These catalogs provide hardware information and pricing on computer equipment.

Now that you have found a computer system for your school, you should feel proud because you were selected as the elite class to assist the school in making a wise choice.

 

The school is very proud to have such an elite class in it grounds.
