TASK | PROCESS | ASSESSMENT
Using the blue prints for our school, your are to "put the finishing touches" on the building. Working in groups, each of you will be given an opportunity to complete one aspect of the building.
In groups of four, you each will become a "worker" who has been hired to finish off the interior of the building. Choose a section of the building you would like to work on:
Painter:
The painter is responsible for
deciding how much paint is needed to
paint the inside of the building. You will also responsible for
the choice of color. You may want to collaborate with the other members of your
"wrecking crew."
Ceiling:
The person who hangs the ceiling will need to know how many tiles will be needed to do the job. Buy Bulk! (And how many tiles are in the pack you will want to buy?)
Flooring:
The school will be carpeted
in the following areas: Main office, house offices, and the two computer labs.
You will need to decide on one other area to carpet. Be sure to state your
reasons why you chose that area of the building. You are also responsible for the
floor tiles. Make sure you decide on the color and the grade of flooring you choose.
Decorator:
What needs to be decorated?
The classrooms and the
bathrooms. (Our Principal will be deciding on his own furniture, but he thanks you
anyway.) Items like desks (30 students in a class plus a teacher) chalkboards,
toilets, sinks, etc., will be needed.
Buyer:
The BUYER is the responsibility
of everyone in the group.
TOGETHER you will gather all of the information from each other and put together a
proposal (typed neatly using a word processing program) including items needed, how much
of each item, cost per item and a complete total of the proposal - the bottom line figure.
You will have time in class to work in your group and gather information from catalogues regarding the cost of any items you will need to "buy" for your crew. Remember: As the buyer, you will need as much information from all of your distributors (catalogues) in order to make very selective choices of your materials. Each person will have to keep records all of calculations made when figuring out how much material you will need for your job. Be specific. Show all formulas that you use for your calculations. |
