This project applies the following NYS Standards:

English Language Arts:

Standard 3

Language for Critical Analysis and Evaluation

Students will listen, speak, read, and write for critical analysis and evaluation.  As listeners and readers, students will analyze experiences, ideas, information, and issues presented by others using a variety of established criteria.  As speakers and writers, they will use oral and written language that follows the accepted conventions of the English language to present, form a variety of perspectives, their opinions and judgments and experiences, ideas, information and issues.

Mathematics, Science and Technology:

Standard 1

Analysis, Inquiry and Design

1-3  The observations made while testing proposed explanations, when analyzed using conventional and invented
methods, provide new insights into phenomena.

Standard 2

Information Systems

2-1  Information technology is used to retrieve, process, and communicate information as a tool to enhance learning.

Standard 4

The Living Environment

4-1  Living things are both similar to and different from each other and nonliving things.

4-3  Individual organisms and species change over time.

4-4  The continuity of life is sustained through reproduction and development.

4-5  Organisms maintain a dynamic equilibrium that sustains life.

4-6  Plants and animals depend on each other and their physical environment.

4-7  Human decisions and activities have a profound impact on the physical and living environment.

Standard 5

Technology

Engineering Design

5-1  Engineering design is an interactive process involving modeling and optimization used to develop technological solutions to problems within given constraints.

Impacts of Technology

5-6  Technology can have positive and negative impacts on individuals, society, and the environment and humans have the capacity and responsibility to constrain or promote technological development.

Standard 6

Interconnectedness:  Common Themes

Equilibrium and Stability

6-4  Equilibrium is a state of stability due to either a lack of changes (static equilibrium) or a balance between opposing forces (dynamic equilibrium).

Optimization

6-6  In order to arrive at the best solution that meets criteria within constraints, it is often necessary to make trade-offs.

Standard 7

Connections

7-1  The knowledge and skills of mathematics, science, and technology are used together to make informed decisions and solve problems, especially those relating to issues of science/technology/society, consumer decision making, design, and inquiry into phenomena.

Strategies

7-2  Solving interdisciplinary problems involves a variety of skills and strategies, including effective work habits; gathering and processing information; generating and analyzing ideas; realizing ideas; making connections among common themes of mathematics, science, and technology; and presenting results.
