Plymouth Information
Click on the Plymouth link at the Teacher Notes page and follow the directions to answer these questions.
Questions 1-5: At the Plymouth homepage, select the Library link located along the left side of the page. Scroll down and select Who were the Pilgrims?.
1. Read paragraph 2. Why did the Pilgrims leave England?
2. Read paragraph 3. When did they reach the New World? Why did they stay where they landed?
3. What document was signed to create a temporary form of government?
4. Read paragraph 4. What tribe did the Pilgrims have good relations with? Name two indians of this tribe. How did they help the colonists?
5. Who was the first governor of Plymouth?
Question 6: Go back to the Library page. Scroll down and select Interesting Facts about the Pilgrims, the Wampanoag, and Plymouth.
6. Read # 7 and 8. How was the way the Pilgrims ate different from today?
Question 7: Go back to the Library page. Select Plymouth Clothing: Dress in Early New England.
7. Select the links at the left of the page describing men's, women's, and children's clothing of the period. Briefly describe how the Pilgrims dressed. Why do you suppose they dressed this way? (Be sure to check out the illustrations)
Questions 8-10: Go back to the Library page. Scroll down to the Plymouth Rock link.
8. Plymouth Rock was first moved from its original location in 1774 and it broke into two pieces. What did this symbolize to the American colonists at the time (note that it's two years before the American Revolution)?
9. Read paragraph 2. The rock was moved again in 1834 to a safer place Why?
10. Read paragraph 5. The Plymouth Rock monument was finished in 1867 and the rock was placed inside along with what else?
Questions 11-13: Go back to the homepage. Select Plymouth Plantation at the left of the page. Then chose 1627 Pilgrim Village.
11. Describe the shape of the village.
12. Click on the different houses. Enlarge their picture by clicking on it. Describe the style of the houses.
13. What was the Palisade? Search for it on that page as a link.
