Steps to Follow
Click on the road signs at the bottom of the page to access the other links!
1. Go print out your scavenger hunt sheets. Each student will be responsible for their own: Jamestown page and the Plymouth page.
2. Begin your hunt by going to Jamestown and then to Plymouth to fill in the necessary information. Go to the road signs below.
3. Using Microsoft PowerPoint you must create a short presentation comparing and contrasting the two English settlements. You will follow the format below and make two sets of slides. In total, you will have 10 slides. Be sure to include pictures to spice up your presentation! You can check the rubric on the Main Page to see how I'll be grading your slide presentation.
Slide 1: Title Slide
Slide 2: Basic Information
location
date founded
Slide 3: Background Information
who lived there? who were the leaders?
why did settlers first go there?
Slide 4: Housing/Settlement Setup
describe the style of houses
how was the settlement laid out?
Slide 5: Interesting Facts
include 3 other facts you learned about the settlement
** Once you're done, print out your Jamestown slides on one sheet of paper and your Plymouth slides on another **
4. Using Microsoft Word, you will also be responsible for writing a letter through the eyes of an early settler.
First you will have to decide which settlement you belong to: Jamestown or Plymouth.
Next, write the letter using this scenario: You are an English settler that has been living in one of the settlements mentioned above for the past 6 months and you've just received your first letter from home. It's from a cousin who's interested coming to the New World. You may convince him/her to come over by writing about the advantages. Or, you may decide, to tell how much you dislike living in the settlement by talking about the disadvantages. Use any of the information you found on the sites.
Your letter should be one page in length, double-spaced, 12 font.
Again, go back to the Main Page and check the rubric for information on how the creative letter will be graded.
5. Print out copies of (to be collected):
scavenger hunt sheets
PowerPoint slides
Microsoft Word creative letter
