Already a distinct personality. This is from the Blue Note recording session of September 26, 1947 in New York City. The group was named the Tadd Dameron Sextet. This is from the Blue Note recording session of September 13, 1948 in New York City. Pictured from left to right are Wardell Gray, Navarro, and Allen Eager. The group was named the Tadd Dameron Septet. Navarro with Miles Davis and Kai Winding at Metronome All-Stars recording session on January 2, 1949. This is possibly a promotional photo for a new line of trumpets. Navarro frequently appeared in Philadelphia and often played with and mentored the young Clifford Brown, who was from nearby Wilmington, Delaware. This photo is most likely from February, 1950. Note the loosely fitting suit, a sure sign of his weight loss due to his illness.
