Summary
As most of us know, Silicon Valley has been
the most famous area for technology jobs in the United
States. Many well known companies such as
Google, IBM, and Intel have a piece of land in this California
region. One would assume that due to this era of technology, employment will be
high. On the contrary, for the past four to five years Silicon
Valley has had a tremendous decline in employment.
Pui Wing Tam of the Wall Street Journal
writes in his article “Silicon Valley Sees Gain in Jobs, Pointing to a
Successful Reboot” about the increase in employment growth in the companies of
this area. As the title of the article suggests, Silicon Valley
is “rebooting” from its employment “crash.”
The per-capita income in this area has had
a great improvement. Employees are now earning approximately $56,633 a year.
Companies such as Google and Apple have had an increase in their stocks as well
as the number of employees. Google made an increase of 65% in employment in
September 2005. Silicon Valley currently has about 14%
of technological regional employment. The reason for this increase and “reboot”
of Silicon Valley is not because of engineering jobs but
because employers are seeking more creative jobs that can bring new innovations
into the company and thereby keeping it alive.
Hopefully the economy of Silicon
Valley can stabilize and open the doors of opportunities and bring
more jobs and new, exciting, and better technology to our world.
