The World According to Google

We have seen how Google has grown and changed over the past years. From being a simple search engine Google has become a source for multiple online services such as Google Books, Google Images, Google Answers, and many more.

But, how has Google come up with all these new ideas. The answer lies in an article from BBC News, “The world according to Google” by Charles Miller from BBC Money Programme. In the article Marissa Mayer, vice-president of search products for Google, explained that Google’s ideas come from trying out a lot of things. “Our goal is to fail fast, get the product out, and see what users like,” says Mayer. She prefers that they come up with an idea and run with it. If the consumer does not like it, they can take it out of production as quick as possible and move on to the next product. Google has been innovative throughout the years. They even came up with Google Ride Finder which shows the position of taxi cabs in American cities.

Through advertising, Google makes their money with their idea of pay-per-click.  Google gets paid by how many clicks a sponsored link gets. Those companies submit search terms that they would be used for classifying their sites. Google even tries to tell its advertisers to misspell some of their words because people tend to misspell words a lot, even Britney Spears.
