GRENDEL'S MOTHER is one of the monsters in the epic. She attacks Heorot to avenge her son's slaying. In that single attack, she kills Aeschere, one of Hrothgar's best men, and takes Grendel's arm with her. She is later killed by Beowulf in an underwater battle.
