Electronic Voting and the Future of Democracy

Electronic voting is not ready for prime time. Recent evidence has shown that existing systems have back doors permitting arbitrary untracked changes to vote totals. These systems are in use in 37 states and are rapidly being implemented. The principals in some of the companies are blatantly political as well. This combination threatens the future of democracy.

The recent decision in California against punch card balloting is in favor of these newer systems, most of which are vulnerable and provide no independent verification of actual votes cast.
