Orinoco Valley of Venezuela.
1502 Christopher Columbus discovers cocoa beans
on his 4th voyage to the new world.
1519 Emperor Montezuma II introduces Hernan
Cortez of Spain to a liquid chocolate drink called "Chocotatl" or "Bitter Water".
1606 Antonio Carletti brings the recipe for
the secret drink to his native Italy. From there it spread throughout Europe.
1657 The first "English Chocolate House" opens
in Great Britain for chocolate drinking.
1728 J.S.Frey and Sons builds the first chocolate
factory in England.
1765 Walter Baker opens the first chocolate factory
in the United States in Dorchester, Massechusettes.
1828 Dutch chemist C.J. VanHouten discovers a way to
make chocolate powder by pressing the cocoa butter out of chocolate.
1876 Daniel Peter is the first to create "Milk Chocolate"
as we know it today.
1922 Mrs. Myers Chocolates, founded by Ethel Myers, begins
operations
1949 Mrs. Myers Chocolates is incorporated.
